HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY follows Chase Strangio, ACLU attorney and the first out trans person to argue before the Supreme Court, as he fights a high-stakes legal battle to overturn Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth (U.S. v. Skrmetti/L.W. v. Skrmetti). The film exposes the dangerous role of mainstream media in fueling anti-trans legislation, uncovering how biased coverage drives hate, endangers lives, and threatens democracy itself.
With insights from journalists such as Jelani Cobb, Lydia Polgreen, and Gina Chua, and activists like Laverne Cox, the story dismantles anti-trans disinformation and highlights its devastating real-world impact. With the dangerous SCOTUS decision upholding the ban on life-saving healthcare, HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY is an urgent call to action against bigotry and injustice.

If you identify as LGBTQIA or love someone who does, then, unfortunately, odds are good that you have encountered someone who judged or condemned you on the grounds that the Bible says homosexuality is a sin. But the Bible was never meant to be a weapon. There are strong biblical arguments that the so-called anti-homosexuality "clobber texts" do not mean what people assume. In celebration of Pride month, Pastor Elizabeth will offer a class on Sunday, June 14, at 2 - 4 pm to help people better understand what the Bible does and does not say about homosexuality, and equip those who want to be able to respond to those who use the Bible to defend hatred and exclusion with a clear biblical argument that the Gospel proclaims a God of inclusive and unconditional love. If there is demand, this class may also be made accessible via Zoom.) Park at our main lot: 1657 Crofton Parkway but go to Fellowship Hall for the class! All are welcome!
